The Federal skilled workers program is probably one of the most popular programs for individuals overseas. There are criteria then needs to be met.
- You must have at least one year work experience that is continuous or equal amount in part time that is continuous and it must be in the last 10 years and be in an Occupation that is either O, A or B.
- You must have a language proficiency score of CLB 7 or NCLC in all sections of an approved language test. (speaking, reading, writing and listening)
- You have completed a minimum of high school but higher is better
- You will get a score minimum of 67 on the Federal Skilled Workers Points System.
- You have the requirement minimal funds accepted for settlement based on the size of your family.
- And finally, you are not inadmissible. (you have criminal record or health issues could are in this category)
You must know this is the minimal needed for this program. The higher your scores the better the opportunities that will be presented to you. This also does have age benefits if you are between 21 and 35 you will be given the most points. If you speak can communicate in both English and French this will also give you more opportunities and a job offer.
This program is scored out of 100 points and all these above points are what will get you there.
A secondary benefit of this scoring system is it also opens up your opportunities to other EE systems like PEI and NFLD.

Minimum requirements
For skilled work experience it must be work in one of the following groups.
- Managerial jobs (skill level 0)
- Professional jobs (skill level A)
- Technical Jobs or skilled trades (skill level B)
When searching for the requirements you must meet all the statements in the lead position of that occupations. Including the essential duties
You must ensure that your experience is in your field of study so it matches your skill set or primary occupation.
It has to be work gained over the last 10 years and continuous employment of 1 year in the primary occupation or can be the equivalent of part time hours but still must be consecutive duration.
It has to be paid employment and self-employment does not qualify. It must be 30 hrs per week for 12 months minimum or 15 hours work per week for 24 continuous months.
This can be paid wages or commissions.
Student work experience
Your student work experience may qualify as well. As long as it meets the minimum requirements of
Paid wages or commissions, was continuous with no time off and meets all the other requirements outlined in the program.
Language test
Meets clb 7 in all categories and is less then 2 years old from date of test result.
Education
If you went to school in Canada you must have acquired a certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian DLI.
If you from a foreign country you must acquire a educational credential assessment from a designated organization recognized from Canada.

- WES or World Education Services
- ICAS or International Credential Assessment Service of Canada
- CES or Comparative Education Service.
- IQAS or International Qualification Assessment Service
- International Credential Evaluation Service
WES is the most popular for individuals who have degrees and not personally recommended for tradesman.
For Professional Bodies who need to get certificates to practice in a licensed occupation there are the.

Proof of funds
You must also be required to show proof of funds which are to show you and your family will have the financial means to settle in Canada while you seek employment. The amount is based on the size of your family
Proof of funds may be waivered if you have a job offer that is verified but you will still need some money to help you get a place to live and start you on your way. They will ask proof for a job offer with an outline of information from the employer.
If you are under a LMIA much of this will not matter
