Canada introduced guidance to support Hong Kong residents to come to Canada

The Government of Canada issued new guidance for special measures to help Hong Kong residents to immigrate to Canada. The guidance provides new instructions on the administration of temporary and permanent residence measures for Hong Kong youth and facilitative measures to support family reunification for those who meet the eligibility criteria. In addition, the Government created a new Org ID specifically for open work permit applications. The guidance clarified that open work permit fees will be collected from applicants applying under a public policy. #IRCC, #Hong_Kong

The Government of Canada updated program delivery instructions for protected persons

On May 18, 2021, Canada introduced program delivery updates for protected persons. According to the new instructions, as of May 13, 2021, IRCC expanded the launch of the Permanent Residence Portal and enabled protected persons in Canada to submit their applications for permanent residence online. The update also includes information about the intake and application completeness. Now, for both online and paper applications, applicants are required to submit only 1 passport-sized photograph of each applicant and family member instead of two. #IRCC, #Protected_persons

Canada introduced updates concerning foreign national family members of victims of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752

The Government of Canada introduced new instructions for applicants who received temporary resident visas (TRVs) or temporary resident permits (TRPs) under the original public policy ‘concerning foreign national family members of victims of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752’ that was in effect from January 10, 2020, to June 30, 2020. Applicants who could not leave the country due to COVID-19 (as well as those who were unable to travel to Canada if they were overseas) and have an expired TRV or TRP may reapply with exemptions under this new public policy, effective March 23, 2021, until January 8, 2022. #PR, #Ukraine, #TRV, #TRP

Minister Mendicino marked the start of Citizenship Week

On May 17, 2021, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marco Mendicino marked Citizenship Week and mentioned achievements reached by Canada. The Minister also highlighted the contributions of immigrants to their communities as well as the Canadian economy. He encouraged all Canadians to reflect on what it means to be Canadian, and take the time to find ways to be in their communities, and help welcome new Canadians. The Minister also thanked front-line workers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and all Canadians who have worked tirelessly to help Canada throughout the pandemic. #IRCC, #Citizenship
