New Brunswick announced the new recruitment for IT specialists to be held in June 2021. This recruitment is intended to cover labour gaps of the New Brunswick Employers in the IT sector. Registration to the event is available for experienced Data Scientists and Data Engineers (NOC 2172 Database analysts and data administrators). Candidates meeting the requirements of New Brunswick have to register before June 15, 2021.

Immigration Medical Examination requirements were updated for Express Entry
Due to COVID-19, the Government of Canada made some changes to the way how applicants can meet an Immigration Medical Examination (IME) requirement for Express Entry application submission. IME is required as a part of the application for permanent residence. Since applicants who are currently in Canada, may not be able to secure an appointment for an IME within a short timeframe, proof of an appointment booked will be accepted in some circumstances. Applicants are advised to visit Medical exams for Express Entry for full details before the arrangement of IME. If IME is already completed, applicants have to proceed with their application submission as usual.

Canada updated the temporary public policy for out-of-status construction workers in the Greater Toronto Area
The government of Canada updated the Temporary Public Policy for Out-of-Status Construction Workers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) that was implemented on January 2, 2020. The policy has sought to regularize individuals who have been contributing to the Canadian economy by filling a regional labour market need. The new temporary public policy will have the same objectives and will further facilitate access to permanent resident status for 500 construction workers and their family members in the GTA. The former public policy will terminate on July 29, 2021 and be replaced by the new public policy that takes effect on July 30, 2021.

Statistics Canada introduced a study of the profile of immigrants in nursing and health care support occupations
On May 28, 2021, Statistics Canada introduced a new detailed analysis of immigrants in nursing and health care support occupations.
The report examines the representation of immigrants in nursing and health care support occupations as well as the professional integration of immigrants who completed their nursing education both in and outside Canada.
According to the study, the vast majority of immigrants in all health care occupations were from the Caribbean and Bermuda, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Philippines. Especially, the immigrants from the Philippines accounted for nearly one-third of adult immigrants in nursing and health care support occupations.
The analysis found out that a significant proportion of adult immigrants working in nursing and health care support occupations transitioned into these occupations after arriving in Canada. This case raises important questions for policies that focus on immigration as a solution to labour shortages in nursing and health care support occupations.
