Canadian parents will be able to pass Canadian citizenship to their children born abroad

The Citizenship Act has undergone changes approved by a committee of MPs, allowing individuals born abroad to adopt their Canadian parent's citizenship.

This decision was made despite objections from Conservatives. In 2009, the Conservative government modified the law to prohibit Canadian parents born abroad from passing down their citizenship unless their child was also born in Canada.

The NDP has proposed a new amendment, which would grant citizenship to the child if the Canadian parent spent at least three years in Canada, proving their eligibility.

The new rule was added to a private member's bill at the House of Commons immigration committee, which has the support of the Liberal Party.

All-party immigration committee calls on the CBSA to stop student deportations

A Canadian parliamentary committee has urged the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to halt the deportation of Indian international students who used fake college admission letters to enter Canada.

The committee has asked the CBSA to waive the students' inadmissibility and provide them with an alternative pathway to permanent residence through a "regularization" program or on humanitarian grounds.

Upon arrival, all these students were told that their enrolled program was no longer available and were advised to delay their studies or go to another school.

Some of them received postgraduate work permits and applied for permanent residence.

Alberta offers a high number of vacancies for truck drivers

Alberta currently has the second-highest number of job vacancies for truckers in Canada, making it an attractive opportunity for foreign nationals seeking work in the country.

As of late May, there were 802 trucking jobs listed on the Job Bank website in Alberta, with many employers seeking to fill multiple positions.

Edmonton and Calgary-based employers offered most of these jobs, with 446 vacancies in Edmonton and 269 in Calgary. Together, these two cities accounted for 89.1% of all open trucking jobs in Alberta at the time.

The median hourly wage for trucking jobs in Alberta is $28, ranging from $18.12 to $37.45 per hour, with the potential to earn more through bonuses.

Both the federal and provincial governments are aiding transportation companies in hiring qualified foreign workers for these jobs through immigration policies.

Canadian Afghans sued the Federal Government of Canada for discrimination

Two Afghan Canadians who served in the Canadian military in Afghanistan are taking legal action against the Federal Government due to alleged discrimination in immigration policies.

The plaintiffs assert that the government affords superior immigration benefits to Ukrainians than to Afghans.

Expressly, the policy for Afghan language and culture advisers permits their immediate family members, such as sisters, to immigrate to Canada, but not their adult children.

The legal team representing the advisers has indicated that they seek to expand the Ukrainian policy to include anyone facing similar circumstances of wartime persecution or gross human rights violations, not just Ukrainians.
