Non-Canadians will be able to make an ATIP request

The Government of Canada allowed non-Canadian citizens living abroad to make an Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) request under the Privacy Act. The new policy will vastly expand the rights of non-Canadians who are outside of Canada, bringing Canada into line with global standards on ATIP. Currently, only two groups can make an ATIP request through the Privacy Act: first, Canadian citizens and permanent residents, inside or outside of Canada; and second, any person or business inside Canada, whether a citizen or not. #IRCC, #Privacy, #ATIP

Canada will invite a record number of immigrants this year

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) welcomed 35,600 permanent residents and processed 45,100 immigration applications in June. This was the highest number of applications processed in one month so far. IRCC’s Minister Mendicino announced that Canada ‘continue to honour the commitments to accept 401,000 new permanent residents this year, and things are moving in the right direction.’ This speed of processing will be sufficient to achieve the goal of bringing in 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021, which will be the highest annual number of new immigrants accepted in Canadian history. #IRCC, #Mendicino, #PR   https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=Canada+Will+Invite+A+Record+Number+Of+Immigrants+This+Year&qpvt=canada+will+invite+a+record+number+of+immigrants+this+year&FORM=EWRE

Workers of the Canadian Border Service Agency voted in favour of strike action

Thousands of Canadian Border Service Agency (CBSA) members have voted in favour of strike action, jeopardizing the federal government’s reopening plans. Workers want shift change notice down from seven days to 48 hours and non-negotiated shifts, so they can impose times worked at the 24/7 operations. According to the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU), CBSA members may strike as soon as August 6, three days before fully vaccinated American travellers are able to travel Canada. #CBSA, #strike, #CIU, #PSAC, #border_workers https://www.ckdr.net/2021/07/27/cbsa-workers-vote-in-favour-of-strike-action/#:~:text=More%20than%208%2C500%20Canada%20Border%20Services%20Agency%20workers,%28PSAC%29%20and%20the%20Customs%20and%20Immigration%20Union%20%28CIU%29. https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=Workers+Of+The+Canadian+Border+Service+Agency+Voted+In+Favour+Of+Strike+Action&qpvt=workers+of+the+canadian+border+service+agency+voted+in+favour+of+strike+action&FORM=EWRE
