Canada introduced special measures to support Hong Kong residents to come to Canada
On August 23, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced updated instructions to support Hong Kong residents to come to Canada.
According to the updated program delivery instructions, officers will use the Organization ID to track all applications received from Hong Kongers.
In addition, the Government updated IEC instructions and added new guidance for the national interest exemption letter section.
Although most applications will be processed by the Hong Kong office, Canada advised all offices to follow new instructions in order to process applications in a consistent manner.

Ottawa will send two military planes regularly to Kabul for evacuations
Two Canadian military planes will ‘fly regularly’ to Afghanistan as part of the international effort to evacuate Afghan civilians and citizens fleeing the Taliban takeover.
Canada reached a deal to allow Canadian military planes to fly between Canada and Kabul. However, the Canadian Government gave no details on when the flights will begin arriving in Kabul or returning back.
These flights will continue ‘as long as the security situation on the ground permits, and will focus on evacuating Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and Afghan Nationals who have an enduring relationship with Canada’s mission in Afghanistan.’

Ottawa introduced a program delivery update for refugee claimants and persons under an unenforceable removal order
On August 19, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced new instructions for applicants with no other means of support and humanitarian reasons.
According to the update, the Government modernized the page about work permits for refugee claimants and International Mobility Program.
In addition, special guidance on fees, medical exams, and work permit duration for applicants with humanitarian reasons, especially destitute students and temporary resident permit holders have been added to the policy.
Every year, Canada issues work permits under section 206 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations to foreign nationals who are not able to support themselves without working.

The Conservative Party of Canada introduced Canada’s recovery plan
Canada’s Conservative Party introduced a detailed plan to secure the country’s recovery from the pandemic.
The plan also illustrates how the party is going to strengthen the immigration system.
Canada’s Conservatives want to implement important solutions to the key challenges of Canada’s immigration system by welcoming the best and brightest from around the world to fill critical gaps and robustly grow the economy and offering refuge to heroic human rights defenders who would enrich the country’s national life.
The party also promised to ‘fix’ the visitor visa system, strengthen Canadian families and unite them with their loved ones and expand the super visa program for up to five years.
