IRCC launched a new website tool for citizenship applications
On August 11, 2021, as part of a citizenship modernization initiative, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) launched a new website tool that will allow all applicants age 18 and over to submit their citizenship applications online.
This will make the application process more efficient as the new online tool is user-friendly.
Using this platform, applicants can save partially completed applications and resume them at a later time, upload required documents, etc.
Later in 2021, the website will accept the online applications of families and minors under 18 years of age. In 2022, the portal will be opened to representatives to apply on behalf of their clients as well as applicants who are declaring residence outside Canada as a Crown servant.

The government of Canada announced new initiatives for racialized newcomer women
On August 11, 2021, the Government of Canada announced new initiatives of the Racialized Newcomer Women Pilot that helps racialized newcomer women defeat barriers such as gender and race-based discrimination, and find good, well-paying jobs to succeed in the country.
As announced in the Budget 2021, the Government invested $15 million in this important Pilot.
In Canada, racialized newcomer women possess the lowest annual income of all newcomer groups, and the Racialized Newcomer Women Pilot launched as the Visible Minority Newcomer Women Project in December 2018, spent over $31.9 million during 3 years to support the employment and career advancement of racialized newcomer women.

Canada began working on vaccine passports for safe international travel
On August 11, 2021, the Government of Canada announced that it is collaborating with the provinces and territories to develop a proof of vaccination that will ease cross-border travel providing COVID-19 background information of travellers.
As a more reliable and secure way to demonstrate travellers’ COVID-19 vaccination history to foreign and Canadian border officials, proof of vaccination credentials will also provide border officials with the vaccination history that they need to assess whether a traveller meets public health requirements and provide a trusted and verifiable credential for when they return home.
Coming back to Canada, travellers will have to submit their proof of vaccination in ArriveCAN.
