On November 5, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published a new update, announcing the online availability of proof of citizenship and search of citizenship records.
Applicants can now submit their applications to IRCC online, pay the related fees, and send any required supporting documents online using the secure portal.
IRCC will still accept paper applications.
Online requests are faster than providing documents by mail and will help applicants who live outside Canada will no longer need to go in person to an embassy or high commission to submit an application.

A Statistics Canada report found that 67% of Filipino nursing graduates in Canada are overqualified for their work.
Nurses have to be licensed as ‘nurses’ in their country of origin in order to be recognized as nurses in Canada otherwise, they have to start their schooling over in Canada.
Saskatchewan is one of the provinces suffering a lot from the shortage of nurses.
Yet, internationally trained nurses face many obstacles.
It usually takes six years to get accredited as a nurse by the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA).
The association encourages all nurses not to give up and become registered nurses.

On November 3, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced a program delivery update on partial biometrics collection and the 1 in 10 policy in the temporary residence stream.
If before in cases where applicants were not applicable for the 1 in 10 policy, the validity date of their biometrics was set to the final decision date of the application, now, the validity date for these applicants will be set to the expiry date of the permit or visa counterfoil if the application is “Approved”.
In cases where an application is “Refused” or “Withdrawn”, the validity date will be set to the “Application Closed Date”.

Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL) has urged Ottawa to allow fully-vaccinated refugees to enter Canada via land borders with the United States.
In a tweet, the association argued that if people are permitted to eat indoor at restaurants, and tourists are allowed to enter the country, it is unfair to direct double-vaccinated refugees back to the US.
CARL states that ‘such a distinction is arbitrary and violates Canada’s obligations under international law, and the Government is required to assess the protection needs of persons who make a claim in Canada.’
