According to the “In Relocation Nation: How Immigrant Tech Founders Boost Canadian Innovation” report of the Innovation Economy Council, start-ups founded by immigrants or their children account for 34.7 percent of all start-ups in Canada.
These businesses develop and grow faster, thus, adding more jobs to the Canadian labour market.
The Council advises the Government of Canada to admit more entrepreneurs through this program.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) report shows that, in 2021, 455 new permanent residents came to Canada via Entrepreneur or Start-Up Visa (SUV) programs.

On March 8, 2022, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), appointed five public interest directors to the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC).
These directors have been appointed for a 2-year term, starting from March 7, 2022.
The appointment of directors will increase the government’s oversight of the consultant profession, strengthen the integrity of the consulting industry, and will help to fight fraud in Canada’s immigration system.
According to the Immigration Minister, “the new board of directors will help make sure that prospective newcomers have access to quality immigration advice and representation, and make sure that everyone is treated fairly and with respect.”

Despite many Americans thinking that the US must have its immigration system merit-based as in Canada and not accept “illiterate” or “non-skilled” immigrants, Canada admits about three times more non-college-educated immigrant workers per capita than the United States.
According to Statistics Canada’s reports, from 2015 to 2019, Canada admitted 244,800 non‐college-educated immigrants over the age of 25 (0.65 percent of the Canadian population), while the US accepted 729,797 immigrants with the same characteristics during the same period (0.22 percent of the US population).
However, Canada has also admitted about five times more immigrant workers with bachelor’s degrees and four times more workers with advanced degrees than the US, admitting four times more immigrants per capita its labour force than its neighbour.

On March 1, 2022, Prince Edward Island’s Office of Immigration has launched a new stream to fill in-demand jobs and tackle the labour shortages in the province.
The new Occupations in Demand stream accepts applicants under four NOCs: NOC 3413 Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates;
NOC 7511 Transport truck drivers; NOC 7611 Construction trades helpers and labourers;
and NOC 6731 Light duty cleaners.
All candidates must have a full-time, non-seasonal permanent job offer from a PEI employer, one year of work experience directly related to the job,
at least a secondary school diploma, a valid language test result, and sufficient financial resources. Applicants also must be 18 to 59 years old and demonstrate a genuine intention to settle in the province.
