On December 3, 2021, British Columbia (BC) announced that the province’s participation in the second phase of the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) as a partner with Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Since many refugees are skilled and experienced, the Pilot will allow them to immigrate under the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). The EMPP helps employers find skilled refugees for positions that can’t be filled domestically and address the province’s labour shortages.
In this phase, BC is planning to nominate up to 50 EMPP refugees under the BC PNP Tech category.

On December 3, 2021, the Government of Canada began to accept applications for the second phase of the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP)
that helps talented and skilled refugees immigrate Canada through the economic immigration streams, such as the Provincial Nominee Program, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot, and the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.
The expanded pilot will provide additional ways for refugees to come to Canada and allow 500 refugees and their families to contribute to Canada’s economy and economic growth.

On November 30, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced a minor update for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) regulation.
In the section qualifying work experience for CEC, the Government changed the term “implied status” and added the correct term, “maintained status.”
In addition, for easier navigation, the “On this page” section has been added and expand and collapse functionality has been removed.
Applicants’ work experience gained during the maintained status and working under paragraph 186(u) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) will be counted as eligible work experience under the CEC.

The Government of Canada extended the online study eligibility period for international students.
Now, foreign students are able to complete 100% of their studies online from outside Canada and still be eligible for the PGWP after graduation.
Under these measures, international students were allowed to study online until December 31, 2021, which now is extended until August 31, 2022.
According to the Government website, an applicant, who studies online between March 2020 and summer 2022 in an eligible Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and meets other PGWP requirements will be eligible for PGWP.
