The Government of Saskatchewan launched a new International Healthcare Workers expression of interest (IHW EOI) pool under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP),
targeting 21 healthcare occupations. After submitting an online form indicating they are interested in working in a selected healthcare occupation in Saskatchewan,
candidates will receive a job offer that enables them to apply to the SINP’s International Skilled Worker:
Employment Offer or the Hard-to-Fill Skills Pilot. This new pool will help connect healthcare workers with job opportunities being offered by Saskatchewan healthcare sector employers.

On December 17, 2021, Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, joined Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC),
to announce the new permanent Atlantic Immigration Program, also introducing the new requirement for employers.
Employers will have to complete virtual and free of charge intercultural competency training during the on-boarding process to better understand cultural dynamics in the workplace and create welcoming workspaces for newcomers.
Employers who want to become designated employers under the new program will have to start the designation process in winter 2022.

On December 17, 2021, the Government of Canada announced that the Atlantic Immigration Pilot became permanent.
The Pilot launched in 2017 has brought over 10,000 new permanent residents to Atlantic Canada and helped communities thrive and prosper, and contributed to the region’s population growth.
The permanent Atlantic Immigration Program will officially open on January 1, 2022, and attract skilled workers to address economic and demographic challenges,
as well as the labour shortage in the region. Eligible candidates will be able to submit applications for permanent residence (PR) under the new program on March 6, 2022.

On December 16, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced a new program delivery update and exempted Ethiopian nationals whose Immigration and Refugee Board or previous pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA) decision was made between December 17th, 2020,
and December 16th, 2021, from the 12-month bar. Those whose decision was made after December 16th, 2021,
will still be subject to the 12-month bar.
The Canada Border Services Agency will contact eligible Ethiopian nationals to advise them to apply for a PRRA before removing them from Canada.
