Will Ontario regulate the influx of international students?

Ontario's significant increase in the number of international students, accounting for over half of Canada's total, has led Federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller to encourage provinces to manage the influx.

This call is primarily intended for Ontario, which has largely overlooked the issue. The swift rise in temporary residents has escalated housing prices and rents, primarily due to the increase in international students since 2008.

Ontario has fostered a thriving international student industry, which has expanded without restriction. If measures are not taken, Miller proposes limiting student visas, which would predominantly impact Ontario.

The province could introduce policies that control numbers while encouraging quality recruitment, but the action remains to be seen.
