Immigration increased Canada’s population to 38,929,902

According to the Statistics Canada data published on September 28, 2022, Canada's population has increased to 38,929,902 people.

The population of Canada increased from 33,476,688 to 38,929,902 within a decade ago.

The vast majority of Canada’s population growth is due to international migration, with an unprecedented number of people coming to Canada to work and study.

In just the second quarter of 2022, 118,114 new immigrants arrived in Canada - the highest figure on record. This trend shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, with 157,310 new non-permanent residents arriving in 2022.

Canada improved requirements for healthcare workers

On September 23, 2022, the Government of Canada announced a new pathway for healthcare workers who faced barriers in accessing permanent residence under the Express Entry system.

Foreign-born physicians who are employed under a fee-for-service model with public health authorities will no longer have to meet current requirements.

Instead, this change recognizes the unique employment model used in Canada’s healthcare system and provides access to Canada’s economic permanent residence programs.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is trying to boost the employment of foreign people in Canada by enhancing its immigration system so that prospective immigrants who are already here can stay and work.
