On March 12, 2024, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released updated program delivery instructions specifically addressing study permits.
The program delivery update outlines the application process for foreign nationals who have received study permit approval overseas but did not obtain the permit upon entry into Canada.
The instructions emphasize that foreign nationals should contact the IRCC Client Support Centre for guidance on acquiring their study permit within Canada.
This includes individuals whose study permit applications were approved abroad yet did not receive the permit at a port of entry during their initial arrival, for example, due to a failure to present a letter of introduction. The update aims to provide clarity and assistance for those who obtain study permits within Canada.

On March 8, the Canadian government introduced a temporary public policy addressing the resettlement of women survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Mexico.
Up to 100 eligible individuals and family members can be resettled through Reed Smith LLP's identification, referral, and support initiatives.
CCVT, as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder, will offer care, lodging, settlement assistance, and financial support for two years. The policy, valid for three years, grants exemptions based on specific conditions for foreign nationals applying under the Convention Refugee Abroad or Country of Asylum classes.
The exemptions cover regulatory fees and address eligibility and admissibility criteria. The policy comes into effect upon signing the Memorandum of Understanding and concludes after three years or upon reaching 100 applicants, with pending applications addressed in case of termination.

On March 5, 2024, the Immigration, Population Growth, and Skills Department of Newfoundland and Labrador announced that the provincial Government has officially opened the application process for its Employment Steps for Success Program (ESS).
Aiming to empower non-profit community organizations, the ESS pilot program offers financial support for developing, implementing, and delivering career planning and employment readiness initiatives. A substantial investment of $1 million has been allocated to non-profit community organizations to boost career planning and employment readiness initiatives.
This funding, now available, follows the success of last year's Employment Steps for Success Program, which saw 19 community organizations receive support for delivering ESS programming.
Organizations keen on making a difference in employment can apply for funding, with a maximum of $50,000 per stream.
The application process, which is exclusively online, covers two distinct streams: Adult Pre-Employment and Career Exploration for Youth. Interested parties can submit their applications under one or both streams before the March 13, 2024 deadline.
