Canada’s Senate adopted changes to Oath of Citizenship
The Senate of Canada adopted Bill C-8, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act that was sponsored by Marco Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
Now, newcomers to Canada learn more about Indigenous history and rights, since legislation to change Canada’s Oath of Citizenship to include a promise to respect the Aboriginal and treaty rights of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis has been adopted in the Senate.
The amendment was in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s call to action number 94.

Canada still accepts applications through five TR2PR pathways
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is still accepting applications through five temporary resident to permanent resident pathways.
As of June 10, 5:30 PM EST the number of applications for other streams is 1,811 applications out of 20,000 slots for healthcare workers and 13,171 applications out of 30,000 slots for essential non-healthcare workers
. As for the French streams, IRCC accepted 46 healthcare workers applications, 431 other essential workers applications, and 306 international graduate applications.
The International Graduate stream for English speakers reached its cap of 40,000 applications just in one day. All six streams were launched on May 6, at 12:00 PM EST.

Ottawa introduced an update regarding off-campus work
On June 9, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced clarifications to the instructions regarding students who possess a part-time course load in their final academic term.
Full-time students with a part-time course load are allowed to work full-time during the regularly scheduled break before their last semester and are allowed to work off-campus up to 20 hours per
week during their final academic session, provided they have maintained full-time status for the duration of their program of study.

Canada updated guidelines on returning incomplete applications
On June 9, 2021, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) provided updated guidelines on when to return incomplete spousal applications.
Updates for Family class applications will help immigration officers to review applications for completeness.
Applicants can be sure their application has been made when an application is received, and date stamped by the Case Processing Centre (CPC).
An application is date stamped the day it is received in the mailroom at the CPC. The fact that the CPC has received, and date stamped an application is proof that an application has been made.
