Canadian population support the government’s immigration policies

Canadians are largely positive and supportive of the Government’s policies on immigrants and refugees.

They believe immigrants are making a positive contribution to the country and help build the country’s population.

According to the survey conducted by the Environics Institute between September 7 and 23, 2021, the overwhelming majority of the population supports current levels of immigration, views immigrants as good for the Canadian economy.

This opinion was stable over the past 12 months.

There is also clear public support for the Government’s decision to accept 20,000 Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban.

Health issues and PGP applications

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), in the parents’ and grandparents’ sponsorship applications, applicants’ health condition is a critical factor in determining admissibility.

If an applicant’s health condition causes an excessive demand on Canada’s health or social services, the probability of these applications’ rejection increases.

Foreign nationals coming to Canada for more than six months must submit an immigration medical exam, done by a designated panel physician.

This is so IRCC can determine whether the foreign national is medically admissible.

Canadian employment held steady in October

Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey for October 2021 showed that employment held steady and the unemployment rate dropped by 0.2 percentage points to 6.7%.

Despite the number of employed people working less than half their usual hours is still 117,000 higher (+14.5%) than in February 2020, the amount fell by 9.7% (-100,000) in October.

In addition, due to the cancellation of the capacity limits in the sectors where proof of vaccination is mandatory, employment experienced a rise in Ontario and New Brunswick, while having a downward trend in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Canada is among the top countries for investment

According to the 2021 Anholt-Ipsos Nation Brands Index (NBI), Canada is one of the top countries in the world for its immigration practices and investment climate.

During the last few years, Canada went up to second place in the NBI’s overall rankings in the survey of 60 nations.

The report by Ipsos states that it is the first time that Canada has moved up to the second place.

“First place rankings on the governance, people, and immigration and investment indices, as well as relatively steady rankings on exports, tourism, and culture contributed to Canada’s record ranking in 2021.”
