Canada to ease border measures

On February 15, 2022, the Public Health Agency of Canada announced amendments to the border measures.

As of February 28, 2022, fully-vaccinated travellers will be able to use either a COVID-19 rapid antigen or a molecular test result taken 72 hours before their scheduled flight or arrival at the border.

The Government eased the on-arrival testing for the randomly selected travellers, allowing fully vaccinated travellers no longer quarantine while awaiting their test results.

Exempted unvaccinated travellers will continue to follow testing and quarantine requirements.

Overseas applicants complain about the immigration backlog

Overseas applicants complain about the immigration backlog

After Immigration Minister Sean Fraser presented the new 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan on February 14, 2022, many overseas applicants expressed their complaints about Canada’s backlog of applications for permanent residency (PR) as well as the processing delays.

On social media, applicants demanded Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to clear the existing backlogs and process all applications first, and then increase the immigration levels.

In addition to PR applicants, temporary residents and those waiting for citizenship approval expressed their frustrations too.

Will TR2PR immigration applications be processed by the end of 2022?

The announcement of the 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan made applicants worry about the inability of the Canadian Government to handle such a huge number of applications.

According to the Government website, open work permit applications issued under the temporary resident to permanent resident pathway will expire on December 31, 2022.

After the announcement of the new immigration levels and the record number of applicants that Canada is planning to invite, applicants worry that their open work permits can expire before being processed.

This year, the theme of the celebration is “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day.”

The Government of Canada invited all Canadians to learn more about the Black communities, their contributions to Canada, and how they continue to shape the story of Canada.

The Black History Month virtual celebration will be held on Facebook, on February 17, 2022, at 7 pm.
