Canada needs more houses for immigrants

According to Housing Minister Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s investment in the housing sector will help attract and retain immigrants in the country.

After hitting a record level of immigration last year and starting to accept an unlimited number of Ukrainians, Canada is worried about the lack of affordable housing for newcomers.

With inflation hitting 6.7 percent, the Government of Canada addressed the shortage of affordable housing in its latest budget through strategies designed to double the amount of construction over the coming decade.

Women immigrants cannot enter the Canadian labour market

Educated and experienced immigrant women are finding it hard to get hired in the Canadian labour market. This is an issue that women have faced and continue to face. According to the recent survey of immigrant women living in the Great Toronto Area (GTA), 83.8 percent of participants had to alter their appearance or credentials to fit in better with other Canadians, downgrading experience and education, changing names, clothes, and accents. Highly-educated immigrant women who came to Canada had high points in the Canadian immigration point system, which became apparent that is not enough in the hiring process. #Women, #GTA, #Survey, #labour_market
