A mismatch between the Federal Court and the Government of Canada

An applicant from Nigeria who applied for a study permit to pursue higher education in Canada got rejected for not providing sufficient funds to cover all four years of study. The Federal Court of

Canada found this decision reasonable and disagreed with the applicant that his financial statements contradicted the visa officer’s decision. While the Government of Canada’s website clearly

points out that “students are required to demonstrate financial sufficiency for only the first year of studies, regardless of the duration of the course or program of studies in which they are

enrolled,” it is not known how this decision did not breach the Applicant’s rights to procedural fairness.

Canada’s labour market reached one million vacancies

According to Statistics Canada’s latest report, almost all Canadian provinces surpassed their pre-pandemic payroll employment levels. Employers in Canada were then working hard to fill a record

high of more than a million open positions, which was exactly 1,012,900. In March, the service sector grew by 103,400 positions across the nation. The accommodation and food services business

added 46,200 full-time employees in March, with 14,800 of those coming from retail trade. In March, the number of paid occupations only in Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan remained

virtually unchanged. The hospitality sector in Quebec, on the other hand, exploded. In March, the province's reopening of bars, taverns, and casinos resulted in 20,400 new paid employment in

hotels and food services.

Ottawa updates the abandonment procedures

On May 30, 2022, the Government of Canada published a new update regarding the abandonment procedures to be invoked following non compliance following email communication. The Government has provided a number of decision-making tools and examples to minimize the likelihood of extended delays in processing. With the consultation of the Client Support Centre (CSC) and Centralized Network (CN), instructions and guidelines were updated, clarifying who is responsible for decision-making after an application has been abandoned. In addition, starting from April 12, 2021, the Government is allowed to use abandonment procedures without the need to re send all correspondence via physical mail if an event invitation or request for documents is sent to an applicant by email. #Abandonment, #application_processing https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/updates/2021-abandonment.html

Prince Edward Island issued a statement on racism

On May 26, 2022, Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island, and Stephanie Arnold, Chair of Anti-Racism Table, issued a statement regarding the most recent racist incidents.

They named these incidents unacceptable and reminded us how it is important to come together to condemn racism in all of its forms. Despite the province has made progress in efforts to address

systemic racism and injustice, some people continue to face these hardships based on their skin colour, background, or religious beliefs.
