On April 14, 2022, the Government of Canada updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET).
According to the latest update, between January 1 and April 10, 2022, 4,347 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and an additional 12,250 arrived by air. Between March 17 and April 12, 2022,
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received 140,877 applications under the CUAET. The applications of 46,417 Ukrainian nationals have been approved so far.

In 2021, the number of international students who immigrated to Canada under the temporary resident to permanent resident (TR2PR) pathway almost tripled when compared to the previous year.
According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), there were 22,670 foreign students who got their PR through the TR2PR program.
To note, this figure almost tripled the 7,750 new permanent residents who had previously had study permits in 2020. In addition, it nearly doubled the 11,565 approvals of 2019 – the last pre-pandemic year.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reduced the immigration backlog by 1.3 percent during the first two months of 2022.
On December 31, 2021, there were 234,740 applications for permanent residency (PR) under the economic programs, while by the end of February 2022, this figure dropped to 231,635.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has promised to tackle the backlog of applications.
The Canadian Government plans to spend $2.1 billion in the next five years to solve this issue and return Canada’s Express Entry system back to normal operations.

On April 8, 2022, the Government of Canada updated instructions for the Atlantic Immigration Program.
According to the new program delivery update, instructions for work permits issued under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Programs (LMIA exemption C18) have been amended to include instructions for the permanent Atlantic Immigration Program established on January 1, 2022.
Despite the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Programs having been terminated on December 31, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) accepted and processed complete work permit applications and extensions by March 5, 2022.
