2022 was a unique year for Canada’s Express Entry immigration system

The all-program draws were on pause for the opening six months of 2022 and then resumed for five more months until a technical issue caused them to be suspended once again. Only late 2022 showed signs of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) application backlog being reduced significantly. After seven years of steady growth since the system’s inception in 2015, this was the first year that saw a complete halt. That being said, it is only provisional as record immigration levels have been forecasted for the coming three years and are expected to increase to 500,000 annually by 2025. Consequently, Express Entry will likely come back with greater vigour in 2023 when Canada attempts to battle its constant labour shortages. #Express_Entry, #IRCC, #glitch, #immigration_levels

Immigration helps employers combat the labour shortage issue in PEI

The recent Canadian census data reveals that Prince Edward Island is experiencing a steady influx of immigrants and temporary residents, helping employers deal with increasing labour shortages.

According to Statistics Canada, PEI experienced an unprecedented influx of settlers in the most recent five-year period, with more than three times as many people settling on the Island compared to earlier figures.

A staggering 4,860 immigrants have relocated to the province in the last five years - an impressive figure that is more than three times greater settling in the province in 2015.

Ontario to launch foreign-trained doctor credential recognition program in 2023

By next spring, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) could introduce a three-month program to recognize foreign medical credentials in Ontario.

This year, the self-governing body for Ontario’s medical professionals submitted a proposal to the province's Ministry of Health, a 12-week program designed specifically for internationally trained physicians in Ontario.

Practice Ready Assessment (PRA) programs in seven Canadian provinces help foreign-trained physicians who have previously finished their training and practiced overseas.

Ottawa updated instructions for Iranian nationals applying for the pre-removal risk assessment

On December 22, 2022, the Government of Canada updated instructions regarding the bar on applying to the pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA) exemption for Iranian nationals.

According to the update, Iranian nationals who received an Immigration and Refugee Board decision or a PRRA decision between December 20, 2021, and December 19, 2022, are exempt from the 12-month bar.

However, those with decisions made after December 19, 2022, are still subject to the 12-month bar.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will notify qualifying Iranian nationals that they can make a PRRA application.
