An increasing number of Chinese citizens are looking at Canada as a destination for immigration

As the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown restrictions ravaged China, searches on the country's leading internet search engine for "conditions to immigrate to Canada" skyrocketed by a whopping 28-fold.

On April 3, WeChat reported a massive surge of Chinese citizens seeking information about "immigration," with the word being searched 50 million times in one day and video views increasing by 14 times.

This follows public protests against China's zero-COVID policies that made many leave their home country for Canada or other Western countries.

Canada announced new funding partner organizations to welcome more skilled refugees

Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Sean Fraser announced new funding partner organizations to widen the scope of Canada's Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP).

The new partner organizations are Talent Beyond Boundaries, TalentLift, and Jumpstart Refugee Talent.

These collaborators are providing refugees with an opportunity for a secure future in Canada by offering them jobs before they arrive.

In addition, the project is actively working to reduce the feeling of displacement that many refugees experience by connecting them to economic programs already established in Canada.

In 2018, the EMPP Pilot Program was created to collaborate with Canadian communities and employers in welcoming 2,000 skilled refugees into the country.

Since October 2022, over 100 skilled refugees and their families have received invitations to work in Canada.

Sudbury considered 48 applications under the RNIP

On December 15, 2022, the City of Greater Sudbury held a new round of invitations in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP).

In this round, Sudbury considered 48 candidates. The lowest score of these draws was 180 points, 125 points fewer than in the previous draw.

All applicants had one eligible occupation and now receive over $20 per hour.

This year, in total, 154 applicants have been invited. Sudbury has recommended at least 225 individuals under the RNIP since the program's launch. The city will continue to invite candidates in January 2023.

Canada cannot provide residencies for foreign-trained healthcare professionals

Returning Canadian and international medical graduates have difficulties practicing medicine in Canada due to the scarcity of residency spots.

Unfortunately, those who studied abroad face even more adversity in obtaining a residency than their counterparts who studied in Canada.

This makes it almost impossible for them to pursue careers in Canada.

Despite increased demand, the number of available spots for healthcare professionals in Canada has been gradually declining since the late 1980s.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has attempted to open up immigration programs for physicians and nurses alike. However, these efforts have not sufficiently remedied this growing shortage.
