During Citizenship Week from May 22 to 28, 2023, Canadian citizens celebrate the achievement of exceeding citizenship goals, with nearly 364,000 new citizens.
The final step in becoming a Canadian citizen is the citizenship ceremony, during which participants take the Oath of Citizenship. Close to 13,000 new Canadians will be welcomed this year at nearly 100 planned ceremonies.
An average of almost 30,000 permanent residents of Canada have taken the Oath of Citizenship monthly between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, exceeding pre-COVID-19 volumes.

Canada is strengthening ties with South Korea through the Canada-South Korea Youth Mobility Arrangement.
This will give youth from both countries more options for international work and travel through International Experience Canada or the South Korean equivalent.
Changes include increasing the age eligibility from 18-30 to 18-35, adding two new streams (International Co-op and Young Professionals), and allowing most youth to participate in the program twice for up to 24 months each time.
The new arrangement is set to begin in 2024 and will create new opportunities for work and travel while improving labour market access for Canadian and South Korean youth.

Applications to immigrate to Canada dropped by 12% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data shows a decrease from 83,691 to only 73,358 applications.
Even more striking is the 39.3% drop in monthly average applications from 40,312 in the last quarter of 2022 to only 24,453 in the first three months of this year.
This drop in applications is due to fewer foreign nationals applying for permanent residency from some countries, which are important sources of new residents in Canada.

According to recent statistics, Canada's population is expected to reach 40 million in June 2023.
This growth is mainly attributed to the influx of immigrants into the country.
Canada has been welcoming thousands of immigrants annually, with a target of admitting over 500,000 annually by 2025.
The Canadian government has implemented policies and programs to attract skilled workers and entrepreneurs worldwide.
These efforts have successfully attracted a diverse pool of immigrants to Canada, contributing to the country's economic growth and cultural diversity.
