According to Canada’s latest Immigration Levels Plan, annual immigration intake through the GPG is set to rise by more than a third in the next three years.
In 2022, Ottawa will welcome 25,000 parents and grandparents, increasing this number to 28,500 in 2023, and 32,000 in 2024.
This is a 36 percent increase when compared to the 2021 target of 23,500 PGP applicants.

Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) answered questions of post-graduate work permit (PGWP) holders in an online meeting.
Minister stated that there is a huge number of people who have completed their studies and have a PGWP.
Many of these foreign nationals feel insecure since their PGWPs are expiring, and they have not been able to apply for permanent residency (PR) yet.
The Minister explained that IRCC is looking for different options to make sure not to lose these candidates as the Government tries to keep these skilled candidates in Canada to tackle the labour shortages in the country.
