Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab announced that Canada will extend special immigration measures for Palestinians currently in Canada who cannot return home due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The measures, first introduced in December 2023, provide fee-exempt permits and status extensions for Palestinians in Canada and family members of Canadian residents who fled Gaza after October 7, 2023.
To date, over 1,750 people from Gaza have been approved to enter Canada after security screening, with more than 860 having already arrived safely.
Officials continue processing applications while advocating for those still trapped in the region.

The North Okanagan-Shuswap region has abruptly cancelled its second scheduled July intake for the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) due to overwhelming application volume during the first intake period.
With an annual cap of 2,750 applications distributed across 14 participating communities nationwide, program administrators were forced to halt further applications to manage processing capacity.
This development signals potential trends for other RCIP communities as competition intensifies for Canada's rural immigration pathway.
Prospective applicants must now await the next intake windows scheduled for August, October, and November, while successful first-round applicants proceed through recommendation meetings essential for permanent residency consideration.

A Prince George family is facing imminent deportation by December 10 due to recent changes in Canada's immigration regulations.
Charisma Isafre and Gandy Boy Rosales, along with their six children, including five-year-old Princess, who has cerebral palsy, may be forced to return to the Philippines, where Princess would lose access to critical healthcare services.
Since arriving in Canada, Princess has made remarkable progress through support from the Child Development Centre, gaining mobility via wheelchair and developing essential skills.
The family is currently pursuing an appeal on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, highlighting the potentially devastating consequences deportation would have on Princess's medical care and development.

IRCC reestablishes biometric collection ope Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has partnered with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to resume critical biometric collection services in Sudan, effective July 24, 2025.
This strategic reopening addresses challenges faced by applicants who were previously unable to complete their Canadian immigration applications due to service suspension. The appointment-only system will prioritize individuals with applications in progress under family-based permanent residence pathways and resettlement programs.
IOM representatives will directly contact eligible applicants to schedule biometric collection appointments and medical examinations, which will be coordinated whenever possible for the applicant's convenience.
