Ottawa updated guidelines on incomplete applications

On July 22, 2021, the Government of Canada updated on incomplete applications. The instructions provide clarification around how to handle incomplete permanent residence applications made under several economic programs and classes. These programs are Non-Express Entry Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Start-up business class, Self-employed persons class, Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP), and Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) Program. Canada will accept a record number of applications for the 2021 Parents and Grandparents Program

On July 20, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of the 2021 Parents and Grandparents Program. The government will use the random selection process as used in previous years. Applicants will receive invitations to apply (ITAs) starting the week of September 20, 2021, and have to submit the application within 60 days. The Government is going to receive up to 40,000 complete applications in 2021—10,000 of these applications are from the 2020 intake process, while 30,000 are from 2021. Canada announced a new stream for human rights defenders

On July 16, 2021, Marco Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the launch of a refugee stream dedicated to human rights defenders at risk who are fleeing persecution in their home country. Canada is going to be one of the first countries to offer a permanent pathway for human rights defenders and will resettle up to 250 human rights defenders and their family members every year, through the Government-Assisted Refugees Program. Canada introduced a new open work permit for recent permanent residency applicants

On July 15, 2021.

Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Marco Mendicino announced that starting from July 26, 2021, applicants of the recently opened pathway to permanent residence will be eligible for an open work permit while awaiting the results of their application.

The new pathway to permanent residence was opened for 90,000 essential workers and international students who graduated from a Canadian institution on May 6, 2021.

Applications for the new work permit will be accepted online.

Additional details about the application process will be added to IRCC’s website on July 26, 2021.

Open work permits issued under this policy will be valid until December 31, 2022.
