Starting the week of September 20, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will hold a lottery for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2021.
IRCC will draw 30,000 candidates from the lottery over a two-week period giving more Canadians and permanent residents than ever before the opportunity to bring their loved ones to Canada.
Applicants who receive an invitation to apply will have to submit their completed applications to IRCC within 2 months. Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino announced the details of the program in July 2021.

On September 17, 2021, the Government of Canada extended the pilot program that exempts permanent residence applicants in the family class or the spouse or common-law partner in Canada (SCLPC) class.
The program had to expire on September 9, 2021, however, now, was extended until September 9, 2023.
The results of an analysis of the pilot, as well as the impact of COVID-19 on the processing of applications, made the Government implement the subsequent public policy by extending the pilot.

On September 16, 2021, the Government of Canada updated guidance for the bridging open work permit (BOWP) applications.
Now, foreign nationals under the Quebec skilled worker class (QSWC) can apply for BOWP if they have passed a completeness check under section 10 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) and meet other eligibility requirements.
Quebec will be responsible for the selection of applicants, while IRCC will be responsible for determining admissibility.
Applicants selected by the province will be issued a Certificat de selection du Quebec (CSQ). In addition, the Government has made clarifications to the Agri-Food Pilot (AFP) section.
Applicants must submit their BOWP applications for the AFP online and provide their approval in principle letter in the ‘Client Information’ field with their work permit online application.
