An accumulation of immigration cases has sparked a dramatic surge in legal action against the Federal Government

The federal government is grappling with many lawsuits concerning its backlogged immigration applications, which has caused immense delays in processing and led to significant dissatisfaction for those stuck waiting for years for an answer.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has been the subject of an incredible 709 mandamus applications in federal court since April 2022 - a sharp rise compared to last year's figures.

Hundreds of people are desperately searching for a legal mandate, known as mandamus, that requires IRCC to process their applications expeditiously.

Such an order would come from the court and direct lower courts or government entities to perform their required duties.

As of January 1, 2023, Home Child Care Provider Pilot (HCCPP), the Home Support Worker Pilot (HSWP), and the Agri-Food Pilot Program (AFP) accept new applications.

Some changes for these pilots have been for 2023, including new occupation codes under the TEER system.

in 2023, Canada will accept 5,500 applications under the HCCPP and HSWP programs. 2023 will be the last year for the 3-year AFP program.

After that, the IRCC will decide whether to make it permanent or discontinue it. The pilot aims to accept 2,750 applications for permanent residency on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bank of Canada governor calls on the Government of Canada to boost immigration

Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem called for an increase in immigration to compensate for the labour shortage that has caused many job vacancies across the country.

At a Conference on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Economics, Finance and Central Banking in Ottawa, he warned against further interest rate hikes unless more workers could be found.

He pointed out that due to the persistent labour shortage, businesses have been unable to meet consumer demands.

With job vacancies at an all-time high and companies citing a widespread lack of personnel, it is evident that the Canadian economy has reached overheating levels.

As production struggles to keep up with insatiable customer demand, prices are bound to increase accordingly.
