On April 21, 2023, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced a new Volkswagen plant expected to create 3,000 direct and up to 30,000 indirect jobs.

Frank Blome, CEO of PowerCo, a Volkswagen company that produces batteries for electric vehicles, stated that the factory would become the world's largest Volkswagen plant.

Volkswagen, the largest carmaker in Europe, recently invested significantly in Ontario and Canada.

The company invests $7 billion in St. Thomas, Ontario, to create its first electric car battery production factory abroad.
