Health Canada has made brand name changes for the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
As of now, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is renamed to Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty, the name of the Moderna vaccine has been changed to Moderna Spikevax, and the AstraZeneca vaccine will be named AstraZeneca Vaxzevria.
To note, only the names of the vaccines have been changed.
There are no changes to the vaccines themselves.
All three COVID-19 vaccines were authorized for use in Canada under the Interim Order which expired on September 16, 2021.
On this date, Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna Spikevax transitioned to an authorization under the Food and Drug Regulations, while AstraZeneca Vaxzevria is under review for transition.
