Canadian job vacancies held steady at 510,200 in the second quarter of 2026, following a 2.7% increase in the previous quarter, according to data released by Statistics Canada.

On a year-over-year basis, overall vacancies were little changed, though open temporary positions rose by 4.4%.

Total Canadian labour demand grew 0.3% quarter-over-quarter to reach 181,100 higher than the same period last year, driven by steady payroll employment gains.

The national job vacancy rate remained flat at 2.8%, with 3.0 unemployed individuals for every vacant position. Meanwhile, the proportion of long-term vacancies open for 90 days or more fell to 25.9%, down from 28.0% in the first quarter.
