Canada's population reached an estimated 41,798,407 on July 1, 2026, according to the latest quarterly demographic estimates from Statistics Canada.

The population grew by 80,343 people, or 0.2%, during the second quarter of 2026. Permanent immigration served as the primary growth driver, adding 99,148 newcomers to the country, while the population of non-permanent residents decreased by 18,875 due to fewer international study and work permit holders.

Natural increase contributed an additional 12,959 people, with births exceeding deaths. Year-over-year population growth slowed to 0.5%, marking the lowest July-to-July growth rate recorded in over a century.
