Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reduced the immigration backlog by 1.3 percent during the first two months of 2022.
On December 31, 2021, there were 234,740 applications for permanent residency (PR) under the economic programs, while by the end of February 2022, this figure dropped to 231,635.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has promised to tackle the backlog of applications.
The Canadian Government plans to spend $2.1 billion in the next five years to solve this issue and return Canada’s Express Entry system back to normal operations.
