Comparing the Government of Canada’s immigration levels for 2021 and 2022, it becomes apparent that the Government increased the number of economic immigrants but decreased the number of the total Federal economic immigrants.

While the quota for the total economic immigration was 232,500 in 2021 with 204,800 Federal economic immigration applications, in 2022, the Government increased the total overall number of economic immigrants to 241,850 but decreased the number of Federal economic immigrants to 196,900 – a 6.5% decrease.

This was mainly because of the increase in economic immigration in Quebec.
