Canada officially stopped accepting new applications for its dedicated Hong Kong permanent residence pathways on August 31, 2026.

Launched in 2021, these temporary public policies provided eligible Hong Kong nationals with recent Canadian work or study experience a streamlined route to permanent residency. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) confirmed that it will process all applications submitted on or before the deadline.

As of late June 2026, IRCC had received over 30,000 applications under the policy. Applicants awaiting decisions can continue applying for open work permits to legally remain in Canada, a supporting measure active until May 2029.
