91.2% of Canada’s population consists of citizens
Statistics Canada's new report, - “A portrait of citizenship in Canada from the 2021 census,” pointed out that out of a population of 33.1 million in Canada, 91.2% were citizens by birth or naturalization.
The remaining 8.8% of the population included non-Canadians, such as permanent or temporary residents.
The share of Canadian citizens by birth has decreased significantly since 1991, while the share of naturalized Canadians and the number of non-Canadians in Canada have increased.
According to the report, 80% of eligible immigrants obtained Canadian citizenship in 2021.
