Supreme Court of Canada will review the appeal of refugees regarding the cancellation of the ‘Safe Third Country Agreement’

Refugees and their lawyers want to challenge Canada's right to deny asylum to those arriving from the United States.

The ‘Safe Third Country Agreement’ signed in 2004 is considered to violate Canada's own charter of human rights, as it returns asylum-seekers to the US, where they are usually imprisoned by the authorities, often under inhumane conditions.

The Federal Court of Appeal rejected the refugees’ claim earlier this year, and the new appeal will now be heard by the Supreme Court.
