Quebec skill workers can now apply for the bridging open work permit

On September 16, 2021, the Government of Canada updated guidance for the bridging open work permit (BOWP) applications.

Now, foreign nationals under the Quebec skilled worker class (QSWC) can apply for BOWP if they have passed a completeness check under section 10 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) and meet other eligibility requirements.

Quebec will be responsible for the selection of applicants, while IRCC will be responsible for determining admissibility.

Applicants selected by the province will be issued a Certificat de selection du Quebec (CSQ). In addition, the Government has made clarifications to the Agri-Food Pilot (AFP) section.

Applicants must submit their BOWP applications for the AFP online and provide their approval in principle letter in the ‘Client Information’ field with their work permit online application.
