Nationals of Myanmar are exempt from the 12-month bar if their Immigration and Refugee Board or previous pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA) decision was made between May 8, 2020, and May 7, 2021. In general, individuals whose refugee claim or previous application for a PRRA were rejected, abandoned, or withdrawn are not eligible to apply for a PRRA for at least 12 months after the final decision. This is also applicable for applicants from Myanmar who receive a final negative decision after May 7, 2021. Since the situation in Myanmar worsens, their deportation could put them in a risk situation. For this reason, an additional assessment is introduced to the applicants of this country.
