The COVID-19 pandemic dealt a heavy blow to Alberta's tourism and hospitality sector, which still grapples with labour shortages hindering industry recovery and growth.

To aid employers in the industry, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is working on creating a specialized immigration stream for tourism and hospitality workers.

This new stream is intended to offer a faster path to permanent residency for newcomers employed in the sector.

Based on priority sectors, the tourism and hospitality immigration stream will complement the Alberta Express Entry Stream selections in 2023.
