According to the latest Labour Force Survey, Canada's three largest provinces faced significant employment challenges in August.
Ontario experienced a decrease of 26,000 jobs (-0.3%), bringing total losses to 66,000 (-0.8%) since February 2025.
The province's unemployment rate declined slightly to 7.7% as job seekers decreased. Meanwhile, British Columbia saw employment fall by 16,000 (-0.5%), primarily affecting core-aged men, while Alberta lost 14,000 jobs (-0.6%), reaching its highest unemployment rate (8.4%) since 2017.
Southern Ontario metropolitan areas continue to struggle, with Windsor reporting the nation's highest unemployment rate at 11.1%.
